Our LOLER Inspection Process
Regulation 9 of LOLER states: a competent person must carry out a thorough examination of your lifting equipment. That’s what we’re here to do.
Our engineers adhere to LOLER Schedule 1 when inspecting your lifting equipment, which means we’ll report on its safe working load, safety details, and more.
A LOLER inspection is designed to check for faults. As such, we may find defects on occasion. We’ll inform you promptly if this is the case, especially if our team deems the defects dangerous.
If your lift needs to be taken out of service for repairs following a LOLER inspection, we’ll inform you the same day to allow time for repairs and replacements.
At the end, we’ll prepare a LOLER certificate, otherwise known as a Report of Thorough Examination. Here, you’ll find confirmation of the safety status of your lift, as well as any defects found.
Check your certificate for the next inspection due date, which will be in 6 or 12 months depending on the lift.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are LOLER inspections a legal requirement?
Yes, under LOLER 1998, an inspection is a legal requirement for businesses across the UK. If you regularly use lifting equipment, you’ll need a LOLER inspection.
Can I use my lifting equipment while waiting for an inspection?
No, you cannot use your lifting equipment if it’s overdue for a LOLER inspection, which is one of many important reasons why getting a timely inspection is important. You can check the certificate provided at your last inspection for the due date of the next one.
What happens if a defect is found during inspection?
If we find a defect during our inspection, it’ll be marked into one of two categories: an immediate danger or a defect requiring repair by a certain date. We’ll always let you know of any defect quickly, especially in the case where it’s a serious fault.
How long does a LOLER inspection take?
It depends on the machinery being inspected. A simple hoist might only take an hour, but larger equipment such as passenger lifts or cranes will likely take longer. If you’re on a deadline, feel free to ask the team how long they anticipate the inspection to take.
